I wanted to capture the true spirit of village life, with all its warmth, idiosyncrasies, and charm. Brambleton may be a fictional village, but it’s inspired by a mishmash of a few lovely North Devon coastal communities that I know so well—full of friendly eccentrics, nosy neighbours and, of course, the occasional scandal.

After years of living in London, where I was so caught up in the whirlwind of work that I scarcely knew who lived next door, I longed to write about the kind of place where everyone knows not just your name, but what you’re having for dinner!

At its heart, A Perfect Devon Farmhouse is a story of coming home—not just to a place, but to a simpler, more meaningful way of living. It’s about rethinking what’s truly important in life and learning to find contentment in unexpected places. My heroine Clare’s journey, from a high-flying London lawyer to an advocate for a small rural village, was a wonderful way to explore this theme, all while having a bit of fun along the way. There are some entertaining moments, plenty of romance, and a good dose of canine chaos—Clare’s dog is certainly no angel, but then again, neither are mine!

Ultimately, it’s a story of new beginnings and rediscovering what makes life worth living. And although there are some bittersweet moments, of course, there’s a happy ending. Because really, where’s the fun without one?

Clare’s life has just been turned upside down.

Yesterday she was a successful London lawyer, about to travel the world on a well-deserved sabbatical. Now she’s back in her childhood home in rural north Devon, after the sudden death of her mother.

Brambleton is a picture-perfect seaside village, where everyone knows your name and where secrets don’t stay behind closed doors for long. Clare left it behind for a reason along with an old flame she wants to leave firmly in the past. Yet, as she gradually learns to collect eggs from unruly chickens, make apple cider on frosty mornings, and look after her mother’s tearaway dog, she begins to fall under the spell of small-town rural life.

When a greedy landlord threatens the future of the village, Clare can’t resist taking a stand to fight for the underdog once again. She’s determined to leave as soon as she’s won, but she hasn’t counted on Brambleton weaving its way into her heart. And she definitely didn’t plan on falling in love…

Will she embrace the village community that has taken her in, or is the pull of her old life too strong to resist? As she makes her choice, Clare will discover that sometimes the most unexpected places are where we truly belong.

I’m thrilled to introduce you to A Perfect Devon Pub, the second book in my Brambleton series. Writing this story has been such a joy—partly because it’s set in the charming seaside village of Brambleton (a place that feels like a second home to me now!) and partly because I’ve had an absolute blast creating Fiona’s story.

Fiona is one of my favourite characters yet. She’s a talented sommelier who arrives in Brambleton to escape the heartbreak of a breakup with her boyfriend, a celebrity chef. Poor Fiona needs time to rest and recharge, but instead, she finds herself working at the Smugglers’ Inn, tangled in an unexpected adventure involving stolen bottles of high-end wine. Let’s just say I’ve really put her through her paces this time—and I think you’ll love seeing how she rises to the challenge.

Needless to say, I’ve had far too much fun researching wine for this book. (All in the name of editorial accuracy, of course!) I’ve also loved writing about breakfasts in this story. Brambleton’s kitchens are alive with the smell of sizzling bacon and freshly baked croissants, and I’m so excited to share more about these breakfasts from around the world in a mini recipe sheet or booklet, which we’ll be adding to the website soon as a little gift.
